Elmer Gernale was born in Bulan, Sorsogon on June 6, 1945. He took up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in University of Santo Tomas and later got his Certificate in Architectural Drafting in Far Eastern University.
He started as a textile designer, a commercial and advertising artist, and a magazine/comics illustrator. He assisted, designed, and supervised some of the Museum Dioramas such as the Ayala Museum Historical Dioramas and Singapore Historical Dioramas.
He was the Head of the Ayala Museum Art Department and Assistant Art Gallery Curator until 1986. After such, he became a full-time Aritst-Painter and his works are more into watercolor, oil, and pen and ink.
